Free Blog Layouts and
Blog Themes for Wordpress
Wordpress is one of the many options available to bloggers who are looking for free software online which makes it incredibly easy to publish their own blog. This software is really easy to use, provides a variety of templates and themes and the company offer excellent support to bloggers.
There are many options available to bloggers and other blogging programs may be better known or offer slightly different features but the greatest percentage of bloggers prefer Wordpress. Based on this information as well as their own research, new bloggers can decide whether Wordpress is right for them or whether they should seek out a different blog network.
Reasons to Choose Wordpress
Some reasons include a great variety of templates, the ability to categorize and tag posts easily, features such as spell check, previews and autosave, the ability to post text, audio files and video files, a variety of privacy options and the ability to track statistical data related to the blog in addition to other great features.
Some of these features may be more important to some bloggers than others so deciding whether or not Wordpress is right for you will largely be a matter of personal preference. For example bloggers with little or no programming experience will enjoy the many different templates available on Wordpress while bloggers who wish to use a blog for an internal network may be more interested in the privacy options available through Wordpress.
The amazing number of themes available is also something that draws people to Wordpress. And most are free. You don't need to enter an email or pay a dime to use them, you simply download to your computer and upload to your blog directory. The creator of the blog theme does get a link back to their site and generally usage of the theme requires you to leave the link and blog theme name intact. A donation button is often offered. If you appreciate the updating of your favourite theme for new Wordpress versions, show it by sending some money.

The Sandbox is a theme for themers. It has the ability to be easily skinned, so beginners will feel comfortable styling it since they only need to know CSS. More experienced designers will drool at the rich semantic markup and profusion of classes, dynamically generated by a few functions.

The template of a blog is the way it shows the elements but the theme is all about the look and feel of your blog. The header image, the colours, sidebar elements with backgrounds and shadows, this is what your theme is for. Your theme can be two, three or four columns, it can use different fonts and come preloaded with sidebar elements. It may display pages differently.
To use a theme simply upload it to your site and activate it. You can usually modify its elements by changing its CSS file but getting a theme that is close to perfect saves a lot of time.
The wordpress site maintains a directory of themes. Check that any theme you use is compatible with the version of Wordpress you are running. If you find documentation that says that you can do something but cannot see the function in your blog, check both your version and your theme, either of them may be causing the problem. The directory is extensive and picking a theme is time consuming so download several while you do this job so that you have different themes for another blog project you may be considering.
