Hosting A Blog On
Your Own Domain 

Starting with a free blog is highly recommended but sooner or later you are going to want to host your own blog so that you can use plugins you want to use, manipulate your theme easily, add a website or a forum, perhaps have multiple blogs so that you can cover many niche markets and to have your own domain email address and generally some control over your blogging business.

There are many excellent hosting solutions online and one may not be better than another but I just wanted to give you a little information from the host I use for this site which is hostmonster. I did do some research before I picked them and so should you, when you are ready, because you are going to need support from time to time and may have particular features that you'll need.

I just wanted to say that hostmonster has been a great choice for me. It was one of the cheaper options and I wasn't sure that they would give me "deluxe" service but they have proved to be extremely helpful, both when I was new and ignorant and also when I started to use more advanced features such as installing scripts. They have a phone in line if you want to talk to someone, or a ticket system where they'll get to your issue in a few days.

When blogging, it is a great advantage to have a host that has CPanel with Fantastico installed and a large amount of MySQL databases for them. Fantastico automatically installs Wordpreess for you and auto backs up when you update Wordpress using it. CPanel makes the few database or cron functions you may choose to use easy to find and edit.

Hostmonsters  documentation is kept simple and is easy to follow but usually covers all the frequently asked questions with a quick solution for common problems.

Recently I received an email from Matt Heaton, the President of Hostmonster.com and he gave me some detailed information about new changes, this I have included below.

"First, because we are growing so quickly we have contracted to add 300 additional Mbit of bandwidth each month to our network starting on the first of each month. This means faster downloads during peaks hours and less limits on burst usage for single accounts. This is an ongoing upgrade that will benefit us through March of 2008!

Second, there have been concerns over what we will be doing regarding PHP4. For those that don't know PHP4 is being phased out in the near future, and while third party organizations have decided to maintain security updates for PHP4, it is clear that PHP5 is the way to go and its only a matter of time before everyone needs to switch their scripts to use PHP5. We have many servers with PHP4 running, and also many with PHP5. To alleviate any issues in the future with certain scripts that only run on one version of PHP we have developed the ability to run PHP4 and PHP5 on the same server simultaneously.

This will be rolled out to all users in the next couple of weeks. Some servers already have this ability while most will see it in the next two weeks. You will simply choose which version you would like to run in your Cpanel. This is a MUCH needed feature for the future, and we don't know of any other Cpanel hosts that will give you this ability (Another score for Hostmonster!!).

Third, for those users that have yet to take advantage of the free marketing credits available to our customers, now is the time. Google has increased their offering to an amazing $50! Simply create a new adwords account with a minimum $5 initial deposit and the $50 of marketing credits will be added to your account.

Lastly, there have been many users that are looking for design services for their website but haven't known where to go.
