Niche Definition?
A philosophy essay in 3 parts. Part 3.

What is a Niche? What is a Niche Market?
Why should I be doing Niche Marketing?

Finding your niche is by definition a matter of trial and error. I don’t care what anybody tells you, there is no big secret to finding a niche. A niche definition is unexplored territory, a small fanbase of extremists, an under privelidged market ignored by big business because it isn't worthy of their notice. The key is to find a profitable niche and that takes some research. You need to take the time to do research because your niche is the key to success with your online business.
Salesmen are perceived in much the same way as snakes and snake bites because people know that sale people are fully aware what triggers them and they are ashamed that they don't have more self control. Sometimes Sales people become conditioned to perceive themselves in this way. I have been compared to a drug pusher one time by a clients son, simply because I would point out a new book in a store by an author I knew the customer liked. It is far easier to blame a salesperson  than to blame ourselves or someone we love for their own lack of control when spending money.

The very first thing you need to realise is that although sales people speak the language of psychology and present information in a cold scientific way about triggering emotional responses and upselling and backend selling and all the rest, selling is a business. If you are taught a trick or technique, it is up to you and totally by your own choice whether you use it and how you use it. People can sell ethically or sneakily in many shades of grey between the two and your customers will make their own choices about what they respond to as well. Women often are very warm sellers and this will attract some clients, men are more likely to keep it simple and businesslike and some people prefer this quick decision approach.

There are many different ways to go about any job but one thing is the same for all. You are a human being selling to other human beings. According to your nature, you will choose the way that you are most comfortable with and the rest is science (or business). People can only advise about what works for them, you may find another way is better for you. Just remember that if you want to get a reaction from someone you need to appeal to them on an emotional level somewhere. Despite all the recommendations for long sales pages and "- but wait" tactics and popups - I know for a fact that there are some people who will be instantly triggered into leaving at the first glance at such a page.

Take what you want from "expert" advice and leave the rest to those who are comfortable with it and have success using it. Your single most useful tactic is to be yourself and state who you are, then those people who are attracted to this know where to come to find more of it. Your network of sites and products will appeal to them - because you have appealed to them. Share what you like and what you find funny and be personal sometimes and share the grief and the joy. Be a human being with wants and don't restrict your copy so that people only see the sales person.

Tap in to the creator inside you and make your blog, website or product pages beautiful, charismatic, entertaining, funny - be the person your friends call up and you will gradually earn friends on the internet as well and they will help you to know what is right and wrong, on your domain and with your products. Adapt all the techniques but don't dismiss them out of hand. Strangely enough, most of these marketers do write about what works for them - not just to rip you off. But don't expect instant millions, just hope for a gradually increasing presence of people and work on the traffic strategies. The rest as they say will follow.

In a much smaller way, the definition of a niche refers to the subtopics that make up a main topic. A niche may be pest control on roses, getting a baby to sleep, natural cures for conjunctivitus or how to restore an old E Type Jaguar.

The definition of a niche may be better explained by saying what it is not. Books, cars, health, babies and gardening are not niches. Concentrating on finding a niche that you want to explore and that you can service in an honest and profitable way is a noble want that will satisfy a hungry want in a potential client.
