Archive for the “Blog Tips” CategoryHappy New Year Everyone!I’m feeling very happy… It’s a new year, it’s a new decade and I just finally fixed this blog after 4 months!I encountered an error message regarding headers and spent hours over months searching for a fix, tried most of them and failed again and again. My RSS didn’t work, I couldn’t login and aweber stopped sending updates. For a blog on blogging it was a really poor show, but I just couldn’t fix it! Finally I followed the advice on the page above, to paste over a new wp-config.php file and then return the data to what it should be. This worked! It was a white space problem – it was just “invisible” white space, because I know I deleted it again and again just as instructed and if you have no idea what I’m talking about, then how lucky are you! In the time I have spent applying band-aids to try and fix it, I have deleted plugins, deleted themes, re-installed twice and altered this and that so I had a mess to clean up. I figured it was time to get a new theme and do a bit of blog renovating. So now I’m using the Mandigo theme which I love and have used on other blogs. It is an easy to figure out (but rich in function) theme for intermediate bloggers. What I like most is it’s easy to add a header to, it has the 4 widget areas and it has a variety of colour schemes. I also am trying out some new plugins and updating the options in the admin area so that the blog runs well but mostly automatically without asking too much time of me, as I have much less time to “play” than I used to. So look out for some plugin posts shortly as I explain what I am using and why. As I have been checking the results of these new plugin installations I have revisited some old posts and I did one about blog value pictures you can add to your blog, so I thought I’d check in and see how I am doing. How Cool Is That! My blog is worth $40 grand!
The first result was awesome – “How Cool Is That” I thought! My blog is worth $40 grand! I’ve won the lotto! It’s totally not true of course and visiting the second link was a big disappointment, but not really unexpected because this blog has been out of action for so long. The truth is actually far closer toOUCH!Still hey, it’s worth something eh? Let’s see if we can bring it back to it’s former glory in the next few months. Anyway – The cat is sitting on the keyboard telling me it’s tea time and my son just wandered in and asked what’s for tea so I’ll have to wait a bit longer yet to get up to speed. Looking forward to talking to you this year. I’m back! Julie Related articles by Zemanta

While I was reading the Clickbank blog yesterday though, I came across a post suggesting Clickbank publishers to use a blog for their pitch page and I was curious enough to take a look. What I discovered is a great site from Gideon Shalwick and Yaro Starek with free videos you can watch that lead you through the process of getting a Wordpress blog set up for the first time. The videos are high quality and answer many questions that someone new to the process will ask. It is the very last video in the series however that I want to talk about today. How to Set Up Feedburner To Handle Email Subscriptions To Your Blog. The last video is about using feedburner to handle email subscriptions to your blog. Wordpress comes ready made with a RSS feed and people who know what these are, have no difficulty using the icon in the address bar to add a blogs RSS feed to their reader. For those people who haven’t explored RSS however, its a murky area they are perhaps unsure of, so head on over there if that’s you – because RSS is a valuable tool for promoting and bringing the message of your posts to your readers with a minimum of fuss. The ability to get updates from your blog is the best type of automatic delivery you can have. It can be set to deliver after each post, or weekly or monthly, whatever suits you best. For people who don’t have time to actively promote to a list, broadcasting your RSS feed via email to subscribers is a steady reminder to them of your blogs presence and an invitation to come back and read some more good information from you. You can do this via aweber using the blog broadcast feature or you can use feedburner. I have not yet used feedburner so I was interested to see what you can do with it . It was impressively easy and it has some cool features that will make your message look professional, clean and modern. Using a text widget you can enter the subscribe code for RSS readers or email subscriptions easily to your Wordpress blog’s sidebar. You can also customize the message they receive on subscription easily so they know that everything happened correctly. Last, within the interface of feedburner, you can get statistics about your subscribers. So if RSS is something you have heard about but have not thought about, now might be the time to learn to make the most of it. Also if you are new to Wordpress and need information on how to set up your own hosted version of it the former videos will be very useful to you. Don’t forget that you can burn ebooks and videos to a disk and have them packaged and delivered by this small and useful piece of CD delivery software. Do you have some videos you could burn to CDs. Some children’s Christmas stories, a karate bible, a how to fix a bike for kids or how to care for your new puppy (kitten, guinea pig, rabbit) ebook or video you could sell on eBay at Christmas. If so nows the time to set up delivery of it and start making your sales pages. All this kind of thing and more will be searched for on eBay at Christmas especially if you categorize it well at eBay, as in – categorize where people look for physical products not digital ones. You should be able to make quite a few sales and set up a quick cash stream there as well as gain some new subscribers. OK – that’s a great idea and now I plan on making it happen for me – what about you? Can you use eBay or another auction site to set up a quick cash stream before the Christmas shopaholics start looking? You’re not thinking it’s the holiday season are you? Forget that! Don’t you know that…

Christmas is coming and Santa’s on his way and you too should be getting something ready for your blogs or sites. Either to cash in on the spending frenzy or join in on the warm and fuzzy feeling of subscriber gift giving.
So What Have You Got Planned For Christmas?Getting some gifts ready for your subscribers is a good idea, and now is the time to start looking for something special to send to the subscribers on your list. If you primarily offer tutorials and marketing information – Christmas is a time to show your human side and offer them something that is not selling anything. A possible idea may be to create a page with a Christmas tree on it and scatter some Secret Santa downloads in boxes underneath it. Create a table under the tree, add some same size pre-formatted gift box images as a background to the cells and attach your links to the pictures. Float on top with your anchor text – labels such as – cat lover, chef, baby, golfer, jokes – I’m sure most of us have enough small free niche products we could offer. Alternatively you could name them with male or female names, or if you prefer to use – say branded ebooks – label them with niche names such as – list building, traffic, blog themes etc. If you have had a really good year then just send something really special to all your customers. Something exclusive to you and of good value to them. It is a thank you gift after all. At the very least plan on sending a colourful digital Christmas card. We will all be very busy all too soon, so getting it ready now, means you can just hit send when its time. You probably have much better ideas than this – I’m just planting the seed. Let your imagination free on it and see what grows. Fill in the email form to subscribe to updates to this blog. We’ll send you a free report and the password for protected posts.
